Episode XXII - Captain's Log

After the death of their friend, Ruk, the group decided to rest at the tooth and nail where they were approached by a woman. She was the first mate of a ship whose captain, Cassius Sargaeta, was requesting the help of the Silver Ravens.

The Ravens went to the ship, the Scourge of Belial, in order to talk to the captain. The captain informed the group that his “friend” was being held prisoner by his “friend’s” father. The captain told the group that he wanted them to deliver a message to his “friend” and bring back his response.

Since it seemed like a fairly simple covert delivery and item retrieval mission, Danar decided to go in alone. Under the cover of night using a combo of invisibility, negate aroma, and his dimensional slide ability, Danar snuck past a Cerberus guarding the “friend’s” family mansion. Once he delivered the message, he discovered that the response was, in fact, the “friend” himself, a moderately disabled poet. Though intimidated by the task of escorting a person past a Cerberus, Danar manages to pull it off without raising alarms.

The grateful captain thanks us for saving his lover by giving us 8 favors.

Upon next returning to the tooth and nail the group meets a tiny halfling that looked like a doll, her name was miss Edith and she was sent by Laria to help the group. They also see Lictor Octavio who brings a hellknight in training, Auros, to help the group. All together, the group travels back into the den of the grey spiders, the lucky bones.

Episode XXI - Flirtng with One Eye

While out celebrating tax day, Ruk was approached by a woman wearing an eye patch. She seemed interested in what Ruk did for a living. She claimed to be a baker but some of the things she said seemed suspicious. So while he flirted with her, he didn’t really try to lead her on. As Ruk was leaving he became aware of another woman watching him.

The next day the group followed up on a lead that about a possible new HQ. It was in an abandoned lot with a mostly torn down building that apparently used to belong to the Grey Spiders. In the rubble the group found a secret door that led to a basement. the basement contained trash monsters called Otyugh. The group started fighting them and found themselves aided by the second mysterious woman Ruk saw the day before. After the fight she introduced herself as Pythiryia. She explained that she was tracking the other woman and believed she was a devil worshiper using this building as a base of operations.

The now slightly bigger group ventured down a flight of stairs and discovered a group of changeling cultists. The group managed to take most of them out, two turned invisible and escaped. After that the group started searching the place and found an old man in a closet. The man turned out to be a faceless stalker, and he got a bit stabby. Deciding that they could venture a bit farther before resting, the group had a delightful time trying to disarm a trapped pit. And then they tried to fight a bearded devil.

The fight with the bearded devil did not go well. Ruk charged in alone and eventually got his head chopped off. Portia got knocked out, Kalos was absent, and Pythiryia had no offensive spells. Even if She had offensive spells, it might not have mattered because Danar discovered it had SR. The only reason the rest of the group got out alive was that Danar decided to use a bead of force that he had acquired from some treasure a while back. The bead killed the bearded devil.

After a little bit of healing the group left the dungeon to come back at a later time.

Episode XX - Enhanced Interrogation techniques
Prison Break

Now that the armijers were all in one place the group simply needed to break them out of the prison. In preparation for this the group decided to take a slightly sneaky route to breaking them out. First the group bought Danar some forging tools and had him forge some transfer documents for the prisoners. Second the group decided to disguise some of their members as mercenaries, and have Kalos deliver the forgery with his mercenary guards.

Everything started to seem like it was going to plan when the warden decided she wanted to talk with Kalos. It really looked like our cover might be blown but it turned out that she just wanted to talk and she might have been “interested” in Kalos. After a short discussion, she let him know that all but one of the armijers could be given to him. The one that couldn’t was the one that was still being interrogated. She apologized for the inconvenience and said that if he came back in a day he could probably retrieve the last armijer. Not wanting to give anyone additional time to uncover the forgery Kalos insisted on being taken to the interrogator.

The warden called for one of the guards to escort the group to the interrogation room. When we arrived we discovered that the interrogation room was a torture chamber and that the interrogator was a Kyton, an outsider from the plane of shadow. The escort waited outside. The group initially tried to talk the Kyton into letting us take the armijer, but when that failed we ended up resorting to fighting her. We managed to take her down after a short fight.

With the interrogator taken care of we grabbed the remaining armijers and delivered them to Setrona. Setrona thanked us on behalf of Octavio.

When the group returned to the longroads we discovered that our rebellion headquarters had become cramped, and we needed a larger one. After a bit of searching for rumors the group discovered that there were some devil worshiping cults in the city and maybe one of them had a large HQ. The group also heard rumors of a blue dragon flying around the temple of asmodeus and that the order of torrent was outlawed because it had been taken over by the grey spiders, a long dead thieves guild. But it was tax day so the group decided to celebrate for a day before continuing the search.

Episode XIX - Field Trip

Under the cover of night the group and Setrona journeyed out of the city to visit a small temple of a sea goddess that Setrona believed her brother might be hiding in. We arrived with no trouble and were greeted by two dirty, hippie clerics. After Setrona told them she was there to see her brother they let us into a secret basement under the temple. It was a bit flooded and smelly but we persevered. Also the basement had an anti-divination spell on it to keep people from finding the Lictor.

In the basement there was a riddle, it was a super easy riddle, to pass into a hallway. The hallway led to a cemetery-esque room with the cloth-wrapped bodies of drowned sailors. Also Lictor Octavio was there. He informed us that while most of the order of the torrent managed to escape after the proclamation was made, several of his armijers were captured. He offered us a deal, rescue the armijers and gain the support of the order of the torrent. We agreed and he gave us his sword with some backstory on it so that his armijers would know he sent us and that it was not a trick of house Thrune.

Octavio also told us why he thinks the order was outlawed. As the order in charge of finding missing persons they had been looking into the disappearance of the former mayor of Kintargo. They were starting to suspect she had been kidnapped by house Thrune and was being held in the opera house (?). Their inquiries were not appreciated by house Thrune. Also we received some intel on where the armijers might be

Sword in hand we returned to the city, with one minor skirmish with some guards, and started looking into rescuing the armijers. Though we discovered one of them was being held in the dog house, the rest were in a prison. We decided we should rescue all of them at once from the prison, which meant making sure the one in the dog house lived till the end of the week so that he could be taken back to the prison.

The group sent in an invisible and odorless danar to deliver some food and healing to the armijer in the doghouse. Thanks to that the armijer lasted the week and was returned to the prison.

Episode XVIII - ITS BATMAN!

After clearing out the Phantasmagoriam. The group laid Pip to rest and, respectfully, looted his body for anything worth a copper piece. We then had the uncomfortable task of informing Rexus that his parents were dead. It didn’t go so well.

Deciding that character deaths was no reason to not keep going the group decided that it was finally time to take care of the Red Jills. The Jills were a gang of harpies located at an old church (?). While preparing to take them down we encountered a mysterious woman in a hood and mask. It looked super cool, we were all impressed. She referred to herself as the Silver Raven. We informed her that she might encounter some copyright issues with that name.

Anyway she then helped us take down the Red Jills, and then helped us loot all the treasure in the belfry. We thought she was so interesting that we wanted to know if she would be willing to help us with other good deeds in or around the city. She agreed and then after a LOOOOONG time talking about the logistics for coordinated efforts we went our separate ways.

When we got back to the long roads we realized something was up. Rexus was drinking heavily and was not taking his medicine. It was worrying us all. Kalos managed to comfort him some though.

Then we decided that we were going to investigate what was going on with the order of the torrent, which had been outlawed via proclamation. We managed to find the order’s leader’s sister, Setrona. Once we clued her into who we were and that we were willing to help the order of the torrent she asked our help finding her brother so that she could know he was safe and eventually get him back into the city. We agreed to help and started gearing up for a jaunt out of the city.

Episode XVII - A Suspicious Overabundence of Linen Closets

I’m going to try updating the log up to current times. Because its been a long time I might have forgotten some stuff, or get it out of order. I’m going to be making several posts for the catch up.

After defeating the Scrivener we decided to rest once more before venturing further into the basement, mostly because we needed to heal and regain spells. The whole party (Pip, Ruk, Kalos, and Danar) was there.

First we encountered a small group of redactors with a helldog. We managed to defeat them with a very small amount of help from a halfling rogue that was being held prisoner by them. He claimed he was there trying to raid the place. After a bit of talking he agreed to help us clear out the place in exchange for some of the loot.

After discovering another group or two of redactors and a shocking number of linen closets, we came across a room covered in chains. The chains all connected to a black, evil looking box. which we later identified as having some sort of connection to a hell dimension (I remember we figured out which one but can’t remember the name, feel free to edit in the name if you know it.) We also found evidence that a copy of the book of the damned used to be stored in the hideout. The book of the damned is a powerful artifact that contains knowledge of all the worlds evil.

We then opened the door to the final room in the dungeon, inside was a woman, a big scary dude, and several redactors. This was a very close battle, especially since the woman was tough as nails and almost started summoning reinforcements. Thankfully we were able to shut that down by interrupting her spell-like ability casting with an acid arrow to the face. Unfortunately, she killed pip. And when we did manage to knock her out, we didn’t do a good enough job because she woke up and teleported out.

We then raided the place, found some cool things like soul tomes and various magic items. Also we found proof that rexus’ parents were dead

Episode XVI - Kill it with fire!
Here be spiders

After a restful night of sleep in a room next to a punch of dead bodies, the group (now sans Kalos but regaining Pip) decided that the best course of action would be to buff themselves up with magic and quickly rush through the rest of the building taking out any remaining guards before searching for the safehouse. Unfortunately, Danar decided color spray would be a good choice for his only offensive first level spell during this run despite being aware that the remaining guards were likely mostly undead.

The group first encountered a group of 5 zombies. Thankfully, Ruk was able to dispatch 3 of them by himself and did the final takedown of a fourth after Danar had weakened it with a disrupt undead spell and a melee attack. Danar killed the final zombie with a crit with his falchion. Pip tried to stab and shoot some of the zombies before discovering his attacks were ineffective and started trying to use combat aid anothers.

After that the group fought two skeletons, These were nasty pieces of work who dealt high damage and were pretty hard to hit. When Danar realized he probably couldn’t hit them with his disrupt undead spells he used his quick study exploit to switch out a prepared spell with burning hands (a full round action). This unfortunately took so much time that by the time he was ready to cast his two allies had been knocked out. So they totally missed him burning the two skeletons to a crisp with a single spell. Danar then used his two potions of cure light wounds to wake Ruk back up, who then used all his healing to revive Pip.

After that the group got distracted by a display of dead lobster things, wasting a few rounds shooting the tank open. The lobsters were not reanimated.

Then the group fought a small army of eight spiders. During the fight both Pip and Danar were bitten and started suffering strength damage. But the combat ended quickly when Danar killed 6 of the spiders with burning hands and Ruk and Pip both killed one.

After that, Ruk and Danar killed some sleeping undead mermaid type things. The whole group looted the place finding several magical (none of which Danar could identify) and/or valuable items. and decided to rest another night before using the secret passageway they found.

Down in the safehouse, the group encountered a Magic book outsider (Scrivener?). From it they learned that the redactors had invaded the safehouse, killing and/or subdueing the archivists, and were still there. The group ended up having to fight the outsider becuase it was loyal to the redactors. It was a tough fight Danar hit the thing with 3 burning hands to take it down. In that room the group found more magical (none of which Danar could identify) and/or valuable items.

Episode XV - Camp activities include hiking, swimming, and karate

After resting up at the tavern the group (sans Pip the Investigator) decided to re-investigate some of the buildings that got burned down the during the start of the martial law. One of which was the burned down tavern on the waterfront. Investigations into this building would be a tad bit difficult since the tavern was now underwater and none of us knew how to swim.

A simple solution presented itself, Danar the Arcanist could cast touch of the sea and air bubble upon himself and quickly investigate the submerged building. The only problem with this plan was that he knew neither spell, which meant he had to trek all the way to the market, buy the scrolls for these spells, transcribe them to his spellbook, then prepare them for the next day. Because of all of this and some poor planning on the order in which the buildings would be investigated, the group spent a day and a half on the investigation with most of that time spent walking around the city. No major clues were gained though a few things like a bottle of cherry were found.

Disheartened with their search, the group was glad when they were approached by Rexus, who told them that his presumed-dead mother might still be alive and in hiding. The probable hiding spot? Horcum’s fantasmogorium, an abandoned curiosity shop/museum and the location of an archivist safehouse.

The investigation of the fantasmogorium did not go smoothly, upon entry within from the side entrance the group was beset upon a group redactor monks and the most annoying invisible cleric in the history of ever. Thankfully, due to Kalos using a potion effectively and a last second color spray out of Danar that incapacitated the cleric; the group managed to survive, barely.

After that the group interrogated the monks, learning that the cleric left probably undead guards around the building and that the monks claimed to have no knowledge of the hidden safehouse.

Then Danar executed the captive monks and the group took some much needed rest, next to all corpses.

Episode XIV - We Let the Dogs Out

While investigating rumors around the city, Kalos discovers that a recent acquaintance of his, the owner of the Clenchjaw tavern, has been taken by the Chelish Citizen’s League and subjected to the excruciation known as “doghousing.” The other rebels agree that this horror-show must stop and Clenchjaw must be saved.

Again with the new kid in tow, the heroes set out to learn more about the doghousing and set up a little chat with the leader of the Chelish Citizen’s League, Tombos Regegius. After a quick interview with Kalos, Regegius lets slip that the doghousing isn’t sanctioned by either the Mayor or the League. It is the work of a single, if enthusiastic, member of the League.

Knowing that the few members involved in the doghousing will have little backup, the team sets out put a stop to the show being held in Aria Park at the Lilly Pond. Their first objective: to put a stop to the man who started it all.

After tracking him throughout the city, Pip informs the team where they can find the League Sargent who is the ringleader of this little sideshow. Kalos attempts to talk the man out of this horrible idea, but fails. Plan B succeeds, however, when the heroes lure the Sargent into a dark ally and proceed to subdue and then intimidate the man into changing his ways, on pain of death.

With the ringleader dealt with, the only thing left is to rescue Clenchjaw. After a quick fight, the team manages to take down the league members participating in the excruciation and end it for good. They then return to Clenchjaw’s tavern where they rest for the evening after Ruck tends to Clenchjaw’s wounds with magic.

Episode XIII - A trip to the dentist

After a bit of research (and a misleading line of bullshit from Vendlefek the faerie dragon), our heroes learn that the creatures who have been tormenting the tieflings in the Devil’s Nursery and who slaughtered the previous group of rebels are faerie creatures known as Tooth Faeries.

As the team prepares for the next step of their mission, they find a new arrival. A half-orc arcanist by the name of Danar has tracked the rebellion to the Longroad’s Coffeehouse and is doing a little too much snooping. After speaking to him, the rebels decide to allow the new kid to tag along on a few missions to see if he has what it takes to join the Silver Ravens, promising to reveal more in time.

Kalos, Ruck, Pip and the new kid decide it’s high time to end this menace and take a trip back to the Devil’s Nursery. After investigating a few empty apartments, the team find the nest of nasties within an abandoned warehouse. The fight turns out to be a brief one, however, as the new kid uses his magic well and manages to burn quite a few of the little pissers into ash with a few well-placed spells.

With the major threat eliminated, the group takes some time to inspect the area, only to find the desecrated corpse of a young tiefling boy who’s murder either summoned or created the deadly faeries in the first place.

While our heroes suspect foul magic is a play, after exhausting their leads and giving the poor boy a popper burial, the team moves on to other, more important matters.
